Vice President of MCC Karen Sessions visits Kosovo
Vice President for Congressional and Public Affairs of MCC Karen Sessions, joined by Jonathan Brooks, the Deputy Vice President of Europe, Asia, Pacific, and Latin America from the Department of Compact Operations at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, visited Kosovo this week.
During the visit in Kosovo, Mrs Sessions had meetings with the president of Kosovo Hashim Thaci, Prime minister Ramush Haradinaj as well as other government ministers and members of the parliament. MCC delegation was accompanied by the CEO of MFK Petrit Selimi and MCC director for Kosovo Sarah Olmstead.
The objective of the high-level visit by the MCC officials was to inform Kosovo of the forthcoming preparatory work needed to be commenced, following the decision of MCC Board of Directors, chaired by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, on making Kosovo eligible for the Compact Agreement.
Vice President Sessions also opened the Women in Energy Scholarship Program, in a ceremony in Prishtina also attended by President of Republic of Kosovo Hashim Thaci and Minister for Economic Development Valdrin Lluka.
Kosovo is already implementing a Threshold Agreement through the implementing entity Kosovo Millennium Foundation, focused on projects related to energy and governance sector.
A new agreement has been made possible following progress reached by Kosovo on indicators of governance, economy and control of corruption published annually by MCC.
Kosovo Government is in the process of selecting a core team of experts that will work on identifying and designing potential projects for the Compact finding, based on the Constraints Analysis developed in 2016 by the Government of Kosovo and MCC.
