- What is an Associate Degree?
Associate Degree is a two-year undergraduate academic degree with the aim to prepare students for a career in a special field via highly-skilled vocational or technical program, i.e. energy sector. The credits obtained can be transferred into Bachelor’s Degree Programs. - When is the deadline for application?
The deadline is on April 07, 2019. - I have a University diploma or I am currently enrolled in the University in a field not related to energy. Can I still apply?
Anyone willing to pursue this technical program is encouraged to apply. As long as you have a high school diploma, no matter the age or previous studies, you are eligible to apply. - What is the selection procedure?
First, the students will have to submit the application form and the required documents. Second, the applicants that pass the first phase will be called for interviews in MFK. Third, the applicants that pass the interview phase will be asked to take TOEFL exam and standardized mechanical reasoning test in English, if they have not taken it yet. Finally, 5 winners and 3 girls in the reserve list will be selected. - What is standardized mechanical reasoning test?
This test will be taken in MFK and it contains basic mechanical questions. - Is this a Master’s Program?
No, this is not a Master’s Program. It is a two-year undergraduate technical program in the energy sector. - How many scholarships will be provided from MFK?
Around 25 scholarships will be given from MFK during 2019 and 2020. - Does the scholarship cover all my costs?
Yes, the scholarship will cover all your costs (tuition, living expenses, books, plane tickets, healthcare) during your two-years in the US. - Can I choose the college?
No, the college has already been selected by MFK – you will be going in Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). MFK will be increasing the number of available colleges for the next calls. - First Cohort: Can I choose my own program?
The programs offered are all technical programs related to the energy sector. Please refer to the links for further details of each program:- Wind Turbine Technology – learn about wind turbine operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Solar Technology – learn about solar power, operation, and repair.
- Applied Engineering – troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment ranging from basic mechanical equipment and electrical motor controls to the more complex systems used in manufacturing environments.
- Information Technology – design, build, and implement the software, mobile, and web application and database systems that are found in organizations of every size and purpose.
- Electronics Engineering – diagnose and repair electronic equipment, including computers, communication systems, business machines and medical electronics.
- Water and Wastewater Technology – work in the water treatment and wastewater treatment industry.
- Computer Numerical Controls – provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level CNC machine operator, or entry level programming position.
- Manufacturing – learn the basic elements of welding, fabrication, computer numerical controlled machine operation, computer-aided drafting and design, machining and workplace skills.
- Tool and Die – Become a skilled technician with hands-on training to learn the diemaking process from manual tooling to computer numerically controlled (CNC).

- My high school does not issue high school diplomas; can I still apply?
Yes, as long as you send a proof of finishing high school (i.e. official transcript). - First Cohort: Can I stay in the US after I finish my studies?
You will have to come back in Kosovo and contribute in the energy sector for at least one year and all these details will be included in the contract you will sign with MFK. - First Cohort: Will I be working in the US?
Depending on the program you choose, you might be working in the US for the related field. All the procedures will be managed and monitored by DMACC and MFK. - First Cohort: When will I leave?
All scholarship recipients will be leaving by the end of August 2019. - First Cohort: What about accommodation and other details?
MFK will hold a pre-departure orientation to clarify all the questions prior to leaving to the US. MFK together with DMACC will help the applicants for finding housing and other details related to their studies. Throughout the entire two years the scholarship recipients would be able to count on the support of MFK and DMACC.
