A new scholarship program for women launching tomorrow
Millennium Foundation Kosovo is launching tomorrow a new activity: WE – Women in Energy Scholarship Program. WE / Women in Energy Scholarship Program is the first activity in the multifaceted effort which aims to create opportunities for women to participate in the energy sector through advanced education, employment and entrepreneurship.
This activity is supported by the Threshold program agreed between the Kosovo Government and Millennium Challenge Corporation, as well as private sector actors. Scholarships will be offered to cover full costs of two—years of studies in accredited international academic institutions, with a special focus on STEM subjects with direct relations to the needs of Kosovo’s energy sector.
The first scholarships will be given to 6 women who will study in Des Moines Area Community College after MFK and DMACC signed a cooperation agreement late last year.
Violeta Rexha, Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist at MFK stated that: “MFK is dedicated to working together with private sector and government to address the issue of the great disbalance noted in the energy sector, where over 90% of all employed in both private and public companies, are men. We are aiming to address this issue by providing a mixture of scholarships, internships and grants.”
MFK provides around 25 fully funded scholarships for the periods 2019—2021, to the value of around $1million. The first cohort will be starting the studies in Fall 2019, while the call for candidates will be open from 20 of February to 7th of April.
