Women in Energy

Millennium Foundation Kosovo (MFK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Des Moines, Iowa, with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), to start an exciting scholarship program for Kosovo women focused on degrees related to the energy sector.

Millennium Foundation Kosovo, in partnership with Des Moines Area Community College, aims to encourage employment of women in the energy sector and creation of new opportunities for women leaders in energy sector in Kosovo by providing scholarships starting Fall, 2019 for Associate Degrees in energy-related fields of study.

Note: Associate Degree is a two-year undergraduate academic degree with the aim to prepare students for a career in a special field via highly-skilled vocational or technical program, e.g. the energy sector.

Initial fields of study at DMACC include, but are not limited to:

1. Wind Turbine Technology

—learn about wind turbine operation, maintenance, and repair.

2. Solar Technology

—learn about solar power, operation, and repair.

3. Applied Engineering

—troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment ranging from basic mechanical equipment and electrical motor controls to the more complex systems used in manufacturing environments.

4. Information Technology

—design, build, and implement the software, mobile, and web application and database systems that are found in organizations of every size and purpose.

5. Electronics Engineering

—diagnose and repair electronic equipment, including computers, communication systems, business machines and medical electronics.

6. Water and Wastewater Technology

—work in the water treatment and wastewater treatment industry.

7. Computer Numerical Controls

—provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level CNC machine operator, or entry level programming position.

8. Manufacturing

—learn the basic elements of welding, fabrication, computer numerical controlled machine operation, computer-aided drafting and design, machining and workplace skills.

9. Tool and Die

—Become a skilled technician with hands-on training to learn the diemaking process from manual tooling to computer numerically controlled (CNC). 10. Welding—learn a variety of skills and processes in several methods of joining metals. 11. Electrical Construction Trades—Install and maintain electrical devices and wiring in residential, commercial, and Industry.
