Ulpiana on the way to becoming Energy Efficient

The Ulpiana neighborhood is becoming more energy efficient thanks to the renovation of its five iconic towers, ultimately allowing its citizens to have increased comfort this winter, while reducing energy consumption.

It is important to note that the facades of only three out of five towers had metal sheets. Brand new and energy efficient metal sheets will be incorporated in the external facade of all of the towers, while preserving the unique elements of their original look.

Tower number 4 has almost completed its renovation. MFK in cooperation with the Municipality of Prishtina, Public Housing Enterprise and residents of Soliterat, are implementing one of the biggest investments in energy efficiency, including external thermal insulation of walls and roofs, energy-efficient windows and/or external doors, renovated entrances, weather sealing of common areas, replacement of radiators and recirculation pumps.

The renovations are designed to increase the energy efficiency of the buildings, helping residents to reduce their energy consumption needs and raising awareness about the multiple benefits of energy efficiency measures.

The 5 iconic towers in Ulpiana started their retrofitting with energy efficiency measures in May 2022, as part of the AER project supported by MFK and MCC, the Municipality of Prishtina, and Prishtina Public Housing Enterprise (PHE). More than 250 families will be benefiting from this €3 million investment in Prishtina, aiming to encourage savings while also improving environmental outcomes.

Millennium Foundation Kosovo is an accountable entity responsible for the implementation of the $49 million Threshold agreement, signed by the Republic of Kosovo and MCC in 2017. MFK’s mission statement calls for accelerating Kosovo’s transition to energy independence and good governance. The Kosovo Threshold Program addresses two key constraints to Kosovo’s economic growth: an unreliable supply of electricity; and real and perceived weakness in rule of law, government accountability, and transparency.
