MCC’s Managing Director visits Kosovo!
Millennium Foundation Kosovo hosted James Gerard, Managing Director of Thresholds at Millennium Challenge Corporation. Together with MFK CEO Petrit Selimi and MCC Country Director Sarah Olmstead, he visited the Minister of Justice Abelard Tahiri.
Kosovo’s judiciary is still one the country’s less trusted institutions. Threshold Program implemented by MFK will support a project to make judicial information publicly available and to improve the collection and reporting of environmental data to the public.
Minister Tahiri has confirmed that this Threshold activity features highly in the list of forthcoming reforms aimed at strengthening the effectivity and transparency of the judicial sector.
During the visit to Kosovo Mr Gerard also visited Kosovo Hydro-Meteorological Institute (KHMI) as one of the most important partners of the Threshold Program.
MFK is helping KHMI, Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency and the Ministry of Environment to consolidate the national system of Air Quality Monitoring Stations, by conducting necessary investments in hardware, software as well as necessary technical assistance.
The project intends to ensure Government can provide reliable and fast information on air quality in Kosovo, but also let the government pose their challenges to civil society and private sector stakeholders to propose creative, data-grounded solutions, which can be a model for more productive partnerships between government and civil society.
